FinOps Intern

What you will learn

Learn the mechanics of cloud cost allocation, unit economics, and showback with hands-on mentoring.

You’ll help keep tagging hygiene high, pull usage data, and turn insights into simple narratives for engineers and finance partners.

Responsibilities

  • Collect usage data, validate tags, and flag untagged resources for cleanup
  • Draft weekly cost digests with top movers and simple charts
  • Assist in savings opportunity analysis (RI/SP coverage, right-sizing signals)
  • Prepare slides and notes for monthly reviews with engineering and finance
  • Keep FinOps runbooks, dashboards, and glossary entries up to date
Requirements

What makes you a fit

Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and comfort collaborating with technical and non-technical teams.

  • Comfort with spreadsheets and pivot tables to slice cost data
  • Can interpret basic cloud billing fields (account, service, region, usage type)
  • Clear communication and curiosity about cloud economics and KPIs
  • Based in New York City or remote.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or GCP Billing
  • Basic SQL for ad-hoc queries against cost and usage exports
  • Experience in a BI tool (Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
  • Scripting small reports in Python/Sheets/Apps Script
  • Awareness of common FinOps KPIs (coverage, unit cost, anomaly rate)
